Why Set Up a Friends group?
Setting up a group means you don’t have to do everything on your own. Whether your space needs saving from development or simply a good clean-up, it’s much easier, and more rewarding – when others are involved! By bringing in friends, neighbours, local schools, dog walkers, football players, and others who use your local open space, you’ll get a range of perspectives and more willing volunteers.
Being a member of a group means you will be able to build a stronger working relationships with landowners (in Birmingham, that’s usually the City Council, and the Parks Service is always keen to work with community volunteers) and have some influence over a local green space that is precious to you.
