Rea Valley Stirchley (Friends of)

Originally the Friends of Ten Acres, this was a community group set up by Sustainable Life Birmingham to manage and restore the derelict woodland of Ten Acres Park in Stirchley. The group’s aim was to transform the derelict Ten Acres heritage woodland site, open up the space and make it safe for public use again while monitoring and supporting wildlife on the site. Following the success of Ten Acres the group merged with the inactive Friends of Hazelwell Park group and took on the next two stretches of the River Rea to encompass all of Stirchley’s River Rea Route (Learn more about the group’s areas here). Thus the group became the Friends of Rea Valley Stirchley.

The Friends of Rea Valley Stirchley’s goal for the site as a whole is to continue the good work carried out in Ten Acres – ensuring public access is maintained while monitoring and supporting wildlife and plant bio diversity on the sites with conservation work and a comprehensive woodland/river management plan tailored to each sites unique range of habitats.
