Sheldon Country Park (Friends of)

Sheldon Country Park covers just over 300 acres of open grassland, wetlands, old hedgerows and mature woodland on the very edge of the city. Having escaped development over the years, the park has become a genuine haven for wildlife and a much-loved green space for local communities.
The Friends of Sheldon Country Park (FOSCP) is a registered charity (No. 1179557) made up of a dedicated group of volunteers united by a common goal – to help promote, improve and preserve the park and farm area for future generations.
The group focuses its work across three areas. Through fundraising, the Friends have supported a wide range of improvements over the years, from a stable block and new barn doors to a community wildlife garden and raised beds in the Tea Room garden. Their most recent achievement is funding a new milking machine for the park’s Jersey cows.
On the maintenance side, the Friends work alongside the park’s Rangers to help care for the farm and wider park, taking on tasks such as brook clearances, tree planting, fruit tree pruning, fence repairs and community litter picks.
With such a rich and diverse natural environment to celebrate, biodiversity is also a key focus for the group. Plans are in place to hold regular nature walks throughout the year, alongside wildlife surveys and riverfly monitoring, helping to build a clearer picture of the incredible wildlife that calls Sheldon Country Park home.
