Handsworth Park (Friends of)

The Friends of Handsworth Park (formerly the Handsworth Park Association) is a group of volunteers and local residents who work to protect and improve the park for the benefit of the community and all park users.
Occupying over 63 acres in the heart of Handsworth, the park serves as a vital green oasis for the thousands of people who visit each year. The Friends of Handsworth Park acts as a proactive voice for the community. The group ensures that local residents are aware of policy and changes involving the park, aiming to influence decisions that affect this precious local resource.
The group’s roots are deeply planted in the local community’s passion for their environment. The legacy of the Friends stems back to 1994, when a group of determined campaigners formed the Save Handsworth Park group. It was the hard work and persistence of those original volunteers that prevented the park’s demise, securing the beautiful green space that is enjoyed today.
Today, the Friends of Handsworth Park aim to guide the future direction of the park by staying closely in touch with the needs of local residents. Beyond physical improvements, the association is dedicated to documenting the rich social history of the site through its website (link below) and community archives.
