West Midlands Railway runs an Adopt a Station scheme, a unique initiative across the UK where local communities step forward to care for and enhance their local stations. Volunteers, often referred to as ‘Friends’, form a dedicated network working with Community Station & Rail Partnerships and train operating company officers. Together, they aim to improve stations, increase passenger numbers, and contribute to local regeneration and social inclusion.

Chester Road Station Friends was established in 2022 and has since been actively working to enhance the area around the station. Their ongoing activities and annual events include:

• Monthly litter picks
• Remembrance boards, featuring a plaque dedicated to a Station Porter who lost his life at the Somme
• Christmas trees, sponsored by local companies, with baubles decorated by two local schools
