    FOHHC AGM 2024

The Friends of Hodge Hill Common (FOHHC) volunteers have been working tirelessly to care for their local green spaces. They are hosting our next morning social event and everyone is welcome to join us!

     Tuesday, 16th July, 11am – 12:30pm, 80 Hodge Hill Common, B36 8AG (Meet by the gazebo outside no. 80).

This social event is a great opportunity to meet fellow community members, learn about the fantastic initiatives FOHHC is involved with, and enjoy some refreshments and great company!
One of FOHHC’s most ambitious projects is converting a disused car park into a community orchard and forest garden. Closed for over a decade, this car park had become an eyesore and a target for fly-tipping. Addressing this issue was a key motivation for establishing their group last year.

At their AGM in April, FOHHC unanimously agreed to transform this neglected site into a vibrant space with fruit and nut trees, perennial edible plants, and a wildlife-friendly native hedge. If the soil is ready in time, planting will begin this winter. This project aims to bring together people of different ages and backgrounds to plant, care for, and eventually harvest and share the produce. Sharing food has always been central to the group’s activities, and this tradition will continue with the orchard.

FOHHC hopes to secure funding for an accessible path, making the orchard area usable for people with wheelchairs or buggies. They are optimistic that this redesigned site will no longer attract fly-tipping, creating a beautiful and productive space for everyone to enjoy.

While there’s much work to be done, the prospect of a community orchard and forest garden is incredibly exciting!
