Government Response to the “Save Our Parks” Petition

On 29 November, the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government issued a response to the Mail on Sunday’s Save Our Parks petition after it received around 17,000 signatures.

The Ministry stated that, while “committed to safeguarding our parks and green spaces” funding to Local Authorities would remain un-ringfenced to ensure flexibility and that they favour working collaboratively with Local Authorities within existing legislation, as opposed to introducing a legal duty for green space management.

They also plan to announce progress on a new programme of work “aimed at transforming the way in which parks are developed, managed and sustained” in early 2019.
