Green Space and Grey Matter
A study by the Universities of York and Edinburgh has found that walking between an urban environment and green space can trigger changes in levels of excitement and engagement in people aged over 65, with green space having beneficial effects due to being calming and quieter.
With increased urbanisation and an ageing population, the study could have implications for architects, city planners and health professionals. Research Fellow, Dr Chris Neale, also pointed out that “…when green spaces are possibly under threat due to pressure on council funding, we have demonstrated that these areas are important to people’s health”.
