Pitts Wood (known locally as ‘The Spinney’) is a hidden ancient woodland in Overdale Road, Quinton adjoining Woodhouse Primary Academy. The site, which is owned by Birmingham City Council, is a relatively small remnant of a much larger woodland and is designated as a Site of Importance for Nature Conservation because of its flora, and is also nationally recognised as a Priority Habitat. The wood is currently leased to the Academy, who use the area for environmental education.

In partnership with the Academy, a ‘Friends of Pitts Wood’ group is being re-established so that the local community can play a part in its future management and protection through conservation work and public events.
