• Nechells Be Healthy Environmental Fun Day: Bloomsbury Park

What an amazing day we all had at the Nechells Be Healthy Environmental Fun Day in Bloomsbury Park! The sun was shining and the park was buzzing with excitement and activities, thanks to the incredible work by Yvonne Wager (BOSF Volunteer Development Officer), who helped to organize the event along with a great collaboration between City of Nature (Naturally Birmingham), Birmingham City Council Ranger Service, The Active Wellbeing Society, National Trust, The Patchwork Meadow, National Energy Action, and Chris Millward from Team4Nature.

The event was designed to introduce Nechells residents to a wide range of opportunities for engaging with their local green spaces to enhance their health and well-being. It was a fantastic success, attracting a great turnout, and we received a lot of positive feedback from everyone who attended!

A special mention goes to Chris (Team4Nature), who led three fantastic bird watch and nature walks.  Over 40 children got involved with these activities and they loved getting up close with nature and enthusiastically shared their ideas for the park’s future! It was heartwarming to see so many young minds engaged and inspired by the environment.

Throughout the day, information stands from the Canal & River Trust, Alzheimer’s Society, Birmingham Talking Therapies, and the Ladywood Neighbourhood Network Scheme were bustling with visitors eager to learn more about community resources and support.

Marcia Dunkley from Legacy West Midlands was also present, providing free blood pressure checks, contributing to the health and well-being of our community members.

Yvonne (BOSF), was delighted with how the event went: “It’s been so rewarding to see the local community come together today. Everyone’s been super positive, and we’ve had lots of requests for more events like this in the park. It’s clear that residents really love Bloomsbury Park and want to see even more happening here.”
