Sarehole Environmental Action Team
The Sarehole Environmental Action Team (SEAT) is a dedicated voluntary group made up of local residents, working in partnership with Birmingham City Council staff and neighbouring voluntary organisations.
SEAT looks after the stretch of the River Cole corridor between Sarehole Mill and the Stratford Road. The area features formal and informal footpaths, plantation woodland, a small orchard, native hedgerows, two sets of stepping stones, the only ford on the river still open to motor vehicles, and the Sarehole recreation ground.
Formed in 2008 as a litter-picking group, SEAT has since expanded its activities to include a broad range of conservation work. These include woodland, orchard, and hedgerow management, path clearance, invasive species control (such as Himalayan balsam and giant hogweed), and water quality monitoring. Volunteers have also taken on one-off tasks such as building steps and creating path diversions.
The group hosts a full workday on the second Saturday of each month, with additional events and activities throughout the year.
