Friends of Perry Hall Park Successful in Tesco Bags of Help Funding
Friends of Perry Hall group is delighted to announce it has bagged £3500 from a Tesco funding scheme.
Tesco teamed up with Groundwork to launch its Bags of Help funding initiative, which sees grants of up to £5,000, £2,000 and £1,000 – all raised from the 5p bag levy – being awarded to thousands of local community projects every year.
Millions of shoppers voted in stores up and down the country. And it can now be revealed The Friends have received this award towards a community outreach project.
Helen from the Friends group said “We want to promote activities for young and old and be able to, not only fund these activities but provide hospitality and wellbeing.
We are a very small group of volunteers and have used our own limited funds to resource Open Days etc. To attract people we have quite a large outlay for demonstrations, entertainment, refreshments and we are keen to keep these events going as they are now becoming an annual attraction. “
The park is a wonderful resource with a Sensory Garden, designed and maintained by the Friends as are the boxes and welcome gardens.
We have decided to put together some activities we aim to run throughout the year starting with an Easter Egg Trail on Saturday 15th April 12.00 -15.00
Since launching in 2015, Bags of Help has awarded more than £28.5 million across more than 4,000 local projects.
Tesco customers will get the chance to vote for three different groups each time they shop. Every other month, when votes are collected, three groups in each of Tesco’s regions will be awarded funding.
Bags of Help criteria have recently been extended to include any project that benefits the community. Previously the scheme funded outdoor projects only.
Funding is available to community groups and charities looking to fund local projects that bring benefits to communities. Anyone can nominate a project and organizations can apply online. To find out more visit www.tesco.com/bagsofhelp
