FoCHP, Tree Trail Walk at Big Green Weekender 2024

The Friends of Cannon Hill Park (FoCHP) is a voluntary group created by members of the local community to promote the interests of the park and its users, including the natural resources and heritage. The current Friends group was established in 2024, following the park’s 150 year anniversary celebrations. In line with Louisa Ryland’s intentions when she gifted the park to the community in 1873, this group seeks to “aid in the protection and preservation” of the park so that people can enjoy physically and mentally healthy recreation. FoCHP aim to represent the diverse users of the park, in particular members of the local communities.

FoCHP organise activities to improve the park’s amenities and people’s enjoyment of them. This includes regular gardening and weeding to help maintain some of the park’s planted areas, and periodic walks and talks focusing on heritage and nature in the park. The group liaises with Birmingham City Council’s park staff, managers, and local Councillors around shared objectives. This includes representing the park’s users and promoting consultation on improvements to play areas and other facilities. As a relatively new group they welcome people to get involved in both small and big activities. For example, they will be fundraising to support further activities and improvements to the park.

You can find out more about the latest events and news from their regular newsletter, website and Facebook group.
