Green Space Shown to Reduce Depression in Adolescents
An American study of over 9,300 adolescents, aged between 12 and 18, has shown that living in an area with more green space is associated with lower rates of depression. The research, which was part of the larger Growing Up Today Study, used satellite imaging to measure the amount of green space within a 1,250m radius of participant’s homes. Those living in the highest quality green space were 11% less likely to present depression symptoms, measured using a self-reported test.
