Government seeks responses to consultation on free use of public parks for running

The Department for Communities and Local Government has an open consultation on preserving the free use of public parks. The consultation is on proposals to legislate to put it beyond doubt that local authorities, including parish councils cannot charge parkrun or junior parkrun for the use of public parks.
Parkrun is a free, weekly five kilometre run and a two kilometre junior parkrun. They take place every weekend, are organised by volunteers at a local level and are free to participate in. The government support the principle behind these events, as they provide a great way to use public parks, are examples of communities organising events on a voluntary basis and enable the public, individuals, families and groups to enjoy healthy exercise.
The consultation is open to everyone, particularly individual members of the public, local authorities, organisations that use public parks, bodies that represents the interests of local authorities at all levels, have an interest in public health and that have an interest in public parks.
